Shanghai Quartet
Renowned for its passionate musicality, impressive technique and multicultural innovations, the Shanghai Quartet has become one of the world’s foremost chamber ensembles. Formed at the Shanghai Conservatory in 1983, the Quartet has worked with the world’s most distinguished artists and regularly tours the major music centers of Europe, North America and Asia. The Shanghai Quartet comes to Winona this summer for a program highlighting Beethoven string quartets and the Brahms Piano Quintet, featuring Festival Artistic and Managing Director, Ned Kirk.

Misha Dichter
Now in the fifth decade of an illustrious international career, pianist Misha Dichter traces his musical heritage to the two great pianistic traditions of the 20th century: the Russian Romantic school and the German Classical style. Equally at home playing either grand virtuosic works or more introspective repertoire, Dichter brings his distinguished musicianship to the Festival this summer, in a recital featuring late sonatas by both Schubert and Beethoven.
Garrick Ohlsson
Since his triumph as winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, pianist Garrick Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. Although he has long been regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of the music of Frédéric Chopin, Ohlsson commands an enormous repertoire, and his Festival recital will highlight not only the music of Chopin and Beethoven, but also Schubert and Griffes.
American String Quartet
and Ariel Quartet
Festival audiences will be treated to an unique evening of chamber music, as the American String Quartet and Ariel Quartet join forces for a program featuring Mendelssohn’s extraordinary Octet for Strings. The internationally-renowned American String Quartet last appeared at the Festival to great acclaim in 2009, and the Ariel Quartet has quickly earned a glowing reputation for its brilliant playing. Their collaboration promises to be a spectacular night of music making that is not to be missed.
Dale Warland and Festival Chorale
Acclaimed choral director Dale Warland and the Festival Chorale return for their fourth summer in Winona. In what has become a beloved and essential part of the Festival season each year, Warland and the Chorale will present a weekend of concerts at Winona’s beautiful Chapel of St. Mary of the Angels, hosted by Minnesota Public Radio’s Brian Newhouse. This season’s concerts present a gorgeous array of choral masterworks ranging from Elgar and Mahler to Pärt and Argento.
Russian National Orchestra
Since its 1990 Moscow premiere, the Russian National Orchestra has been in demand throughout the musical world. The first Russian orchestra to perform at the Vatican and in Israel, the RNO maintains an active international touring schedule, appearing in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
